“I can’t wait to visit Japan again (where I don’t need to see all the “touristy things”)
That’s what I heard myself say after five weeks of travelling in Japan. Despite loving the culture, nature and people, I realized my experience felt shaped by the curated world of social media.
In this zine, I reflect on how social media trends influence how we travel and document our journeys—and why I left Japan feeling I’d enjoy it a little more on a second visit.
Inspired by DIY and tactile design, the zine blends my photos, scrapbook cutouts, and Japanese graphic design influences. This contrasts social media’s polished aesthetic with the raw, sensory reality of travel, highlighting the value of authentic, unfiltered experiences.
