Festival International de Jardins is a garden festival in Québec. For its 26th edition, they invited designers to rethink the notion of BORDERS (FRONTIÈRES in French) in today’s postcolonial context and to transpose these reflections into a garden environment that blurs disciplines, renegotiates preconceived ideas about garden/landscape, and actively dialogues with visitors.

I translated the concept of BORDERS into the visual identity of a poster, brochure, and exhibition catalogue and played around with the idea that borders don’t have to be fixed or rigid.

The construction of the brochure is folded in a less conventional way. It's not folded in the middle, but instead only covers 70 mm of the inside. I also decided to have the artwork from the front page continue onto the right side of the brochure.

The exhibition catalogue is spiral-bound to create a sort of border down the middle of the layout. To further accentuate this, I used the pixel border all the way through the layout. Also in line with the theme, I decided to let the title of the book take up both the back and front of the cover. You have to open the book and sort of “break the borders” to see the full cover artwork.
